One of the restaurants here, Legendary Hong Kong, has been drawing in the crowds since it opened its doors and for very good reason. Determined to offer exactly the kind of food found in Hong Kong’s better kitchens (and not a Singapore imitation) the owners have flown in a culinary team that has earned its stripes in a number of respected HK restaurants. Also flown in are the specific ingredients required to distinguish the Hong Kong style of cooking from other regional varieties.
Not all ingredients are brought in from Hong Kong though. Following the growing trend in Chinese restaurants for a London-style roast duck, prepared using the highly prized ducks from Silver Hill Farm in Ireland, Legendary Hong Kong is the first restaurant in Singapore to offer these premium birds on their menu and the dish is already their best seller.
We recommend the Barbequed Twin Combo of Roast Duck and Crisp Pork Belly, an excellent dish that highlights Chef Siu Chin Ho’s mastery. To accompany the meats, there is an extensive menu of over 300 dishes, split into sections that include Noodles and Congee, Dim Sum and Bakery. From the Noodles and Congee section, we tried the Tossed Beef Brisket and Tendon Noodles and the Congee with Century Egg and Shredded Pork and were not disappointed. Also recommended are the Rice Rolls with Minced Beef and Coriander and the Steamed Beef Balls with Beancurd Skin. Of course, no visit would be complete without multiple helpings of their delectable Char Siew Pau and the divine Custard Crust Buns with Salty Egg Yolk – definitively leave space for these!
The restaurant’s casual dining area, adorned with huge images of Hong Kong harbour and the city’s dynamic cityscape, make it an excellent choice for both lunch and dinner during the week, or an extended session of dim sum on the weekend.
